At a moment of profound change in our politics, that work has taken on new urgency. The Democratic Party must not only respond to the challenges immediately before us, but begin building the relationships, ideas, and leadership that will define what comes next.

Great Society Action convenes emerging leaders with experienced hands from across the Democratic Party to exchange ideas, and confront the challenges reshaping our country and our politics. Through conversations with leading thinkers, policymakers, strategists, and innovators, it creates a forum where hard-won experience meets the energy, imagination, and ambition of a rising generation.

More than sixty years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson described the Great Society as rooted in “abundance and liberty for all.” He envisioned a society that “demands an end to poverty and racial injustice.” And he challenged a rising generation with the responsibility of carrying that work forward: “your generation has been appointed by history to deal with those problems and to lead America toward a new age.”

The Great Society, Johnson reminded the country, was not “a final objective” or “a finished work,” but “a challenge constantly renewed.” That same spirit animates Great Society Action.

Great Society Action carries forward a Democratic tradition rooted in the belief that politics and public service can be instruments of progress, and that each generation has a responsibility to renew that promise for the next. By bringing together those who have shaped our Party with those now rising through its ranks, Great Society Action seeks to forge relationships that might not otherwise exist, put new ideas into the hands of those positioned to advance them, and help build the leadership and agenda the Democratic Party will need for the challenges of a new age.
